The International Institute for Child Rights and Development

IICRD welcomes Nancy Taylor and Kristine Archie

IICRD welcomes Nancy Taylor and Kristine Archie who both joined IICRD in May 2010.

Nancy will be working as the CRED-PRO and GC 19 Administrative and Operational Coordinator. Before joining the IICRD Nancy was the Community Liaison Officer and later, Acting Executive Director of the BC & Yukon branch of Canadian Parents for French, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for Canada's youth to learn and use French as a second language. Prior to that, she worked in Singapore for the Canada-ASEAN Centre. Her work focused on promoting Canadian business opportunities, cultural activities and tourism throughout Southeast Asia.

A passionate advocate of lifelong learning, Nancy's professional and volunteer work has primarily focused on supporting educational initiatives - for children, adolescents and adults. Nancy graduated from the University of Victoria with a BA in Spanish and French. She is keen to put her skills to use in the important work the IICRD undertakes to improve the lives of children around the world.

Kristine will be working as the Community Development Project Coordinator on aboriginal community work in British Columbia, Canada, with Child Protection and Well-being Manager, Vanessa Currie.

Before joining IICRD, Kris worked with the Vancouver Island Aboriginal Transition team as the manager of community engagement supporting aboriginal communities on Vancouver Island where her focus was on discussions regarding the reclaiming of aboriginal child welfare. She moved from there into work alongside the Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner for a brief time before branching out on her own.

Prior to that, Kris worked with the Child and Youth Officer for BC as a youth participant coordinator supporting the meaningful engagement of young people throughout government.

As an aboriginal youth advocate, Kris’ more recent professional work has dealt with issues relating to youth engagement, and developing community engagement strategies and strategic planning for non-profit aboriginal organizations. Kris remains committed to caring for and supporting the many children and youth in her life and community through education on child rights, listening, loving and playing. Her ongoing learnings are focused on secwepemcstin, reconciliation, hosting collaborative spaces in life and work, decolonization, mentorship and humility.

Welcome Nancy and Kris!
