The child is not only someone who has to be protected, but someone who has a right to respect and consideration of his or her own dignity.
Grounding Research in Action
Current research initiatives at IICRD include:
- Engaging Youth in Community
In the YouthScape Initiative, we use Social Analysis Systems Tools and Developmental Evaluation to learn about how ‘marginalized’ youth can be engaged in a comprehensive community initiative
- Child Protection
In the Child Protection Partnership Initiative, we examine how information technology affects children’s lives (both positively and negatively) and how young people can best be engaged in their self protection in light of their lived experiences. In other protection programming, we are working with young people and their communities to create stronger systems to support their needs and reflect their strengths and resources.
- Child Justice
In the Hear the Child Initiative, we examine how to bring forth the views and perspectives of children to inform law, policy and practice when children’s best interests are determined in family justice processes.
