Growing Up in Cities Canada

The Creative Tools: Civic Engagement of Young People manual presents an approach and provides tools for engaging young people in municipal governance based on the work of Growing Up In Cities Canada.

The approach and tools in the kit build on our combined experience of working with young people. They were field tested in three different Canadian cities: Vancouver, Halifax, and Gatineau, and provide a Canadian example of real municipal child and youth civic participation. The tools themselves are designed to be youth-friendly, fun and stimulating, and to provide a practical basis for gathering young people’s perceptions on the strengths and challenges in their local communities. They also form a basis for developing concrete action plans that involve young people in civic decision-making in partnership with local adults, community planners, and municipal government representatives.

Learn about mapping, visioning, 'Jenga with a twist' and photo-framing. The tools are youth-friendly, fun and stimulating, and provide a practical basis for gathering young people's perceptions on the strengths and challenges in their local communities.
